The book begins with a consideration of aims, goals, and objectives, and how each of these fits into the planning process. The assumptions underlying objectives and their historical development are then discussed. Arguments for and againts objectives are debated, and a review of the empirical findings is explored in terms of recommendations for teachers, curriculum developers, learners, and evaluators.&#13;

The second part of the book considers ways of using objectives. Two chapters are devoted to how aims, goals, and specific objectives can be written, before two further chapters discuss how they can be organized within the framework of taxonomies and mapped for classroom use. A final chapter discusses alternatives to objectives, including lists of questions, advance organizers, and overviews.</subfield>
