Catatan
Much current interest in language teaching has centred on psycholinguistic aspects of learning and acquisition. To complete the picture it is necessary to look also at the context in which the learning and use of the foreign language takes place and at the social and cultural forces at play.
This book presents a critical examination of recent theories an research within the field of sociolinguistics and incorporates into this a novel interpretation of the social, cultural and political factors involved in learning and using a non-native language such as a second or foreign language. The emphasis throughout is on clear exposition and the pedagogic implications and applications of the subject-matter. It should be of interest to every language teacher, especially to those who teach English as a non-native language, as well as teacher trainers, textbook designers and, of course, linguists. It should also be accessible to a general reader interested in the process of becoming and being bilingual.
